About Versailles

The Versailles area is a historical town established in 1843. It barely made it through the civil war. This town was very active in the area, folks came here for supplies, business dealings and social events. The county was mainly agriculture as their lively hood, wood products, a brick factory. Versailles is the county seat for Morgan County, so we also have a historical courthouse in the center of the town known as 'the square'. There is the Morgan County Museum housed in another historical building known as The Martin Hotel established in 1877. It has recently been updated with heating & cooling to protect the building and its wonderful contents, which has been donated by residents of this area. Lake of the Ozarks

In the 1930's the Lake of the Ozarks was made and has changed the area a lot. Gravois Mills only ten minutes south on Hwy 5 you can see water. Tourism has taken over a big part of the area south of here. Many folks had to relocate when the lake was made, however it is a big asset to central Missouri. There are restaurants galore, water sports and the famous Factory Outlet Mall in Osage Beach, plus much much more.
